Police: At least 5 wounded in Baltimore street shooting

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore’s police commissioner says at least five people were wounded in a streetcorner shooting. Baltimore Breaking News
He says an officer saw it happen and fired at the gunman, who got away. Commissioner Michael Harrison said the officer patrolling in west Baltimore around 6:30 p.m. saw a man firing a “semi-automatic assault rifle.”

Police are investigating whether two others who later showed up at hospitals were wounded in the same shooting.

Seven people were shot Tuesday evening in the Madison Park neighborhood, according to police. The suspect had a rifle and was dressed in all black with a ski mask.

The officer who was patrolling the microzone confronted the man after he fired into a crowd gathered at the corner of Eutaw and McMchen Streets around 6:27 p.m.
“Our officer was on regular routine patrol when he observed a subject shooting at a group of individuals with a semi-automatic assault rifle,” Harrison said. “Based on that, he engaged the suspect and discharged his weapon.”

Police said five people were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. They’re investigating if two additional shooting victims who later walked into the hospital are connected to the incident.
The victims are a 37-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, three 20-year-old men, and a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man.
Investigators said after the officer fired his weapon, the suspect got away.
“The officer is in good condition,” Harrison said. “He is being treated, but not suffering from any gunshot wounds.”
Police said they’re starting an internal investigation
