Lost Your Luggage? Here's How Midway Airport Lost and Found Can Help
Traveling can be stressful, and losing your luggage only adds to the frustration. Whether you accidentally left a bag in the terminal or it went missing during a connection, there’s a system in place to help. The Midway Airport lost and found office is designed to assist passengers in recovering misplaced or forgotten belongings, including lost luggage.
Step 1: Determine Where You Lost Your Luggage
The first thing you need to figure out is where you might have lost your luggage. This makes a big difference in who you need to contact.
-
If you lost your bag in the terminal, such as at baggage claim, a restroom, or a seating area, contact the Midway Airport lost and found directly.
-
If your bag didn’t arrive at the baggage carousel, it may still be with your airline. In this case, you’ll need to speak to the airline’s baggage services desk.
-
If your item was lost at the security checkpoint, the TSA has a separate lost and found process.
Pinpointing the last place you saw your luggage helps avoid confusion and saves time in the recovery process.
Step 2: Contact Midway Airport Lost and Found
If you’re sure the item was lost in a public area of the airport (not on a plane), reach out to the Midway Airport lost and found office. Here’s how you can get in touch:
-
Phone: (773) 838-0656
-
Email: MDWLostandFound@cityofchicago.org
-
Location: Lower level, near baggage claim
-
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (closed on holidays)
Provide a detailed description of your luggage. Include size, color, brand, tags, stickers, and anything unique about it. The more specific you are, the better the chances of it being identified and returned to you.
Step 3: Submit an Online Lost Item Report
If you're already home or unable to visit the office in person, you can file an online report through the official City of Chicago website. After submitting your claim, you’ll receive confirmation and updates if your item is located.
Remember to check your spam or junk folder so you don’t miss any communication from the Midway Airport lost and found team.
Step 4: Follow Up and Be Patient
Midway’s lost and found office handles many items daily, so it may take a few days to hear back. If you haven’t received a response after a few business days, follow up with your case number. Most unclaimed items are held for up to 30 days.
